  • Engine: ATI Damper Hub

Does anyone know the exact amount the ATI damper hub is off using their Super Damper from TDC indicated on the Stude timing marks?

Jim, I had two of these made, both at different times and on each I requested they follow the stock damper mark that I sent them but they ignored this both times. I made a new indicator from the timing cover so mine will not be exact but on mine the 270 degree mark on the damper is TDC. With the R type indicator, I'm guessing it will be about 280 degree mark.

This should get you in the ball park but the only way to get it exact is to get the piston on TDC and see where it is on the damper. When I found out where mine was, I painted a white mark on the damper.

    Hope this helps.

I'm going to have the keyway moved to make it accurate. ATI wants $250 to change the drawing, which I think is crazy. So, I'll have them made locally and offer them to Stude guys and they can buy the balancer only from ATI. I have an engine that might work, but was hoping someone already knew the amount it was off.

However, this does bring up another question. Is the R engine indicator at the same location as the regular V8's?

I'll have to check out the two timing indicators to be sure but I think the R engine tab is a few degrees lower than the standard.

Also, I thought I paid to have them done correct in the first place, BOTH times. The second time I reminded them the first one was not right.

ATI has been less than enthusiastic about getting this done, especially considering that Ted gave them what they needed to get it right the first and second times. For them to require $250 to modify drawings and make it right when it is their mistake seems a bit out of line, hence my move to supply the hubs without their involvement. Then we just buy the Chevy smallblock Super Damper and done.

Any luck on finding differences in the regular V8 and R engine timing marks?
