  • Body / Glass: Door Lock

This may be a stupid question, but I don't want to proceed with getting this re-keyed if it's still broken!

This is for a 57 Hawk (different setup than Plain Brown Wrapper's Lark)- there is a 1/16" pin in the pot metal shaft that slides back and forth in a slot in the lock housing...mine had sheared off.

My machinist neighbor drilled out the broken pin and we installed a new one, but as we were putting it back together, it ocurred to me that maybe the shaft itself is supposed to be connected to a piece inside the lock housing. This seems to have the same amount of play as my other lock, which I thought wasn't broken.

Has anyone had one of this type apart? Is the shaft connected to something inside the lock cylinder, or is it just held in place by the pin?

There should be quite a bit of pivotal play in the shaft. With the key in the lock, if turning the key allows the shaft to sweep the full arc of that slot, you're good to go.
