Ground Cable

62 GT Hawk - Grounding strap is connected where on the right front fender? Parts book says 22 inch strap - no location - open hole adjacent on the fire wall on the right side facing up - prior non-stock strap bolted to battery shelf support bracket, then the middle bolt of the intake manfold. Battery has positive to front - negative to firewall - not sure that is correct.

The ground strap is only a few inches long. it goes from a bolt on the right motor to the frame mount. The negetive battery cable hooks to the top, outer water pump stud.

The ground strap from the battery should go to the engine (water pump stud/bolt), not the body sheet metal. Your battery is either the incorrect model or is in incorrectly. The negative , ground terminal should be towards the front of the car and towards the center of the car. If you can't achieve this configuration, you probably have a 24F (Ford style) rather than a 24 or 24C battery (that you should have).
