Here is my first Stude,she is assembled in South Africa and imported to Holland in 1996
I bought her two years ago and she is my daily driver.

Were South African build records ever kept? I'd sure like to know how many of these were built and how much of the car was sourced locally. The steering wheel is Avanti which means it was either added or the car was built sometime after 1962.

The cost of the dashboard components and color of the upholstery (if it really is light blue)had to be astronomical in low quantities.

Looking at the condition and completeness of the paint job, I'd have to guess this is a recent restoration in a non factory color, or a color exclusive to S.A. builds since the color is not a U.S. 62 Studebaker color.

These off-shore builds are really fascinating.

I began the day with nothing to do and I've just about got it all done.

There were 947 non-US & Canada 1962 Hawks. I think that they were all six cylinder engined cars.

Hi Jerry,fun you are interested in my SA baby.
its a long story but here it goes.
The color of the car was the color of the int.
Last SA owner was mr de Lange from Johannesburg,he was an pilot and let his car was flown to the Netherlands in +_ 1996 ,because at that time he lived here
I have the number plate it is in my shop in another town.

The car is built in SA by an assembling company in Uitenhage
The wheel is Alfa Romeo
There was no heating they dont need it over there,and I made it myself a bit in the style of an airco under the dash
The RHD is no problem but I am now going to make a floorshift because of the long cables in the gearshift system in this car,in wintertime the first 10 to 15 min its really hard to shift and I think it will look and work nice
The car has still its org engine with 60000 miles ,has very little rust and is running on LPG

I'm always impressed with the dedication of our members in Europe who put up with the expense of owning and driving Studebakers (and other old cars).
