    Will a 1956 185 c.i. 6, fit a 1951 car?

    Yes. It will fit just fine and give you slightly more horsepower.

    You will have to use the oil pan from the 56 engine. You will also have to dial in the bell housing.

    56 was the first year for 12 volt Studebakers and the flywheel has a different number/pitch of teeth. If your 51 is still 6 volts, you should use the 51 flywheel.
