After much gnashing of teeth, aggravation leading into desperation... The Power Hawk now has spark and runs!

I called a friend who has worked on cars for close to fifty years and he confirmed my diagnosis that all was hooked up correctly but there was a poor intermittent ground. Turned out that the terminals on the ground cable, (which wasn't all that old), had corroded internally probably due to the use of copper coated aluminum wires. He removed it, got a big hammer and wacked the crap out of where the crimped onto the terminal and viola! Juice and spark and the car started and runs! He mentioned that modern battery cables are mostly crap and he maintains a supply of copper ends and solders the wire in to 'em providing that the wire is copper and nothing else.

One down and two more tasks to go...

Thanks for the feedback.

I take it that you are referring to clamp on terminals. These should only be used as a temporary "Band-Aid" until the correct cables with ends attached can be installed.
