Shocks: 64 hawk shock absorbers

I am trying to find shock absorbers for my 64 GT Hawk, no luck at the parts stores. Are the shocks sold by SI a good fit for my car. Thanks to all.

I bought all four shocks on my car from S.I. I also bought an upgraded front sway bar from Phil Harris @ Fairborn Studebaker. All great people. Handles better than I remember my last Stude handling. No problems. Good luck!

I tried two sets of Stude aftermarket shocks, I finally bought a set of KYB Gas Adjust for '70-'81 Camero and made some minor mods, they fit nicely and I am very happy with the handling now. The rears have a slightly shorter range, which actually helps prevent stress on my rear brake flex line, which always stretched when I put my car on the rack, I've never hit the shock limits when driving hard.

I just installed a set of Gabriel 82151 Classic HD shocks on my '62 and they bolted right in with no mods. They worked wonders for the ride.

I'm not sure if they are compatible out-of-the-box for 1963-64. IIRC, someone mentioned a different type mounting (or something of that nature) that may require a slight modification.

At about $30 each, they reduce the most bang for the buck.

Andy: Are those fronts or rears?

The lower rear mount changed entirely for 1963, from an eye-mount with a through bolt to a stud with washers and large grommets above and below the spring plate. This lasted through to the end.

Hence, a recommendation for an easy 1962 rear substitute won't work on a 1963 or newer Stude. BP

If it helps, the front shocks for your '64 are the same as the '63-'65 Buick Riviera. I remember that from my days selling car parts years ago. If a store database lists the Buick you can use those.
