  • Unusual Studebaker Items #18 (they weren't just for Speedsters)

Most people call the early wire wheel covers Speedster wires even though they were first offered for 1953 models. The so-called Speedster exhaust extensions that are highly sought after were also offered well before the Speedsters. OK, these earlier ones were for a smaller tail pipe, but...

I had a MIB one of these. I put it on my 1953 Commander Starliner when it was going to be judged. After I sold the car, I sold the like new extension with its original box to Stu C. for $20.

I don't think those look anywhere near as Good as the '56 to ''64 Hawk and Sedan Studebaker AC-2840 Type for a Sedan or Hawk.

You do have to remember that Station Wagons need to exit 45 degrees out the bumper corners to look good and not draw Exhaust in the Tailgate Window and they do not work or look right with Extensions except a standard turn down tucked under the bumper.

ID:	1679951 The openings in the ends are fake to not get all blackened, they deflect the Exhaust down.

Oohhh. The impression I got from the ad was the 'smoke' coming out of the exhaust tip, was PART of the exhaust tip. Some sort of flange or suchlike, it looked to me. Looking at it now, after seeing the actual piece, it's a little clearer, but I had a totally different image in my mind after looking at the ad.

I do like the tips on the Hawks.

I don't know why someone hasn't taken a round extension, in a horizontal or slightly canted angle, and used the end as a circle with an 'S' script logo in the middle of the pipe. A little bit of work with the welding of it, but *I* think that could be eye catchy.

I have a pair of round tips on my 64 and i made S 's to go in them, but my 259 runs so rich they turn black quick. I clean them with carburetor cleaner when i show it.

Well, I never expected I'd come up with a completely original idea, but it does feel good to have someone else think it was a good idea too! I figured the 'S' would get dirty, but I figured on wiping it down regularly to stay ahead of soot.
I just thought it was a perfect touch.
