Cadillac also introduced the first flathead V8, beating the Cole flathead V8 to the market by a month.
Cadillac was not the first US car with an OHV V8. The 1917-18 Chevrolet D-series V8 was an OHV engine. One can see the exposed pushrods in some photos here: http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...5-1918-Chev-V8

          What's a "muscle car"?

I don't remember, but can accept that Motor Trend first used the term, however the definition was/came to be any factory installed high horsepower car. If it would boil the rear tires off the line, it was a "muscle car". At least that's the way I remember it.

Bill Haley And The Comets, even though the lyrics don't include roll:

            Lyrics
One, two, three o'clock, four o'clock, rock
Five, six, seven o'clock, eight o'clock, rock
Nine, ten, eleven o'clock, twelve o'clock, rock
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight
Put your glad rags on and join me, hon'
We'll have some fun when the clock strikes one
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight
When the clock strikes two, three and four
If the band slows down we'll yell for more
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight
When the chimes ring five, six and seven
We'll be right in seventh heaven
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight
When it's eight, nine, ten, eleven too
I'll be goin' strong and so will you
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight
When the clock strikes twelve, we'll cool off then
Start a rockin' round the clock again
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'til broad daylight
We're gonna rock, gonna rock, around the clock tonight
Songwriters: Max Freedman / James Myers

The Cadillac 331 OHV V8 gets the credit, though by whom, I cannot recall. Some people claim that Ford introduced the first flathead V8, but that's BS.

Besides Cadillac and Cole, the Olds Viking and Buick Marquette had a V8 prior to 1932. It was a unique V8 engine, because it had only one head gasket...for both sides.

So did Wills St. Claire, and it was an Overhead Cam engine.

Interesting how this topic got off on the definition of a muscle car and what qualifies.

I too have watched the subject youtube videos. That fellow has some serious make do with what you have and school of hard knocks earned skills. Looks like he is having fun and isn't that what its all about?

I think that "Rock Around the Clock" was wrritten in late 1952 and released in early 1954. (I will leave it to someone else to research this if they care to.)

WWI before WWII was called the Great War and the War to end all Wars.

Butter.....Parkay. Taste Great Less Filling....Less Filling Taste Great....ad nauseam. Both Pontiac and Studebaker and Oldsmobile Plymouth Mercury AMC all gone. No Muscle car today just yesterday's memory or if you have really really deep pockets you can buy one again. See how far you get by jumping off the line; tickets for drag racing are at a minimum $2,000. Boy that will show them who's boss.

I will continue to drive my different by design with difference in delight.
