Not sure which version of DL or Steeltech disk brake setup you are using, but Dave usually has a print out of the parts list. You can reach him at: project_43@msn.com. I will check to see if I have a list, but mine is the original setup from the early 90s.

The fronts hoses are not on the list. He did answer my e-mail

quote:For front hoses I prefer to use are 1975 Chrysler Cordoba front hoses because they are the perfect length for Stude cars, tho most GM hose with a "Banjo" end can be used (Camaro, Cad, OLDS, Pontiac, pickup, etc etc) (GM are usually quite a bit longer and may need to be tied back to prevent rubbing something). The Cordoba hose will need a square corner on the brass fitting to be rounded off to drop into the GM caliper recess, but after that it is a great fit. Most any aftermarket stainless braided hose will have the usual banjo fitting. Get the ones with the usual 3/16 brake line fitting at the frame end.
I have ordered them from Napa and should have them in the morning. The rear rotors would wobble from side to side after I tightened them up so I had a machine shop check them. One was out .08 and the other as .04 so they turned them and now that part does just fine.
Now I have a new problem, the rear rotors don't fit flush with the flanged axle centers allowing the rotors to wobble up and down. I need to make up some kind of spacer to prevent this from happening or it will appear like the tires are out of round.

I wouldn't do any spacing like that...

Find out what's keeping the rotor from sitting flush and fix it! Do NOT bandaid it if you want it to be right.

A guy here at work just bought a Baer kit for the back of his Chevelle. He ended up having to turn a bit off of the axle flange to get the rotors to fit right. So even the expensive stuff needs additional work to work correctly!

The rotor is setting flush. They were both warped some and had to be turned. That is no longer the problem, the rotors do not "locate" into position and will move .208 side to side. If not fixed, it will act as if you have an out of round tire.

If I am understanding you correctly, there is nothing to keep the
rotor concentric on the hub. I used shouldered wheel studs, but
if you have a shoulder on the axle already, then you should only
need an alignment adapter to center the rotor. 6061-T6 would be
easy to machine, I would put a lead-in chamfer on the outside
diameter to help the rotor on, and on the inside inner diameter
incase their is a slight radius on the axle hub. Also check the
inside diameter of the rotor to see if there is a chamfer like
the one I described for the adapter ring. Not sure what outside
diameter to make the adapter ring though, maybe .005-.010 less
then the inside of the rotor? 7075-T6 is "stronger", and you can
always make it out of steel.

This is what I had to do to the GT hose to fit the Cobra caliper,
but only on the passenger side :

I dont think there is a serious strength issue in this area, once the
wheel is mounted to the rotor, its going to hold things pretty well.
All the adapter needs to do is take up the space between the hub and
the rotor. 6061-T6 (or even a non-structural aluminum) should be fine
to use for this part, but I would feel better about long term with it
made from 6061 or better. You could also press out the wheel studs &
find shouldered studs like I listed the part number of in my GT/Cobra
brake article. They are Dodge truck. You need to make sure that the
holes in the rotor for the wheel studs are no larger then what I list
in the article. It depends on how easy it is for you to get the parts
made to use for centering the rotor. Since there is no shoulder on
the stock Stude hubs, that wasnt an option in my design. Are these
the Fairborn flanged axles? I will run into the same problem when I
update the Avanti project to these.

                  Hmmm...strange indeed.

Yea, just have an alum. (or steel) ring made to center the rotor on the hub. There are many ways to lock it in place, just make sure it's locked somehow.
The lug nuts will lock (pinch the wheel to the axle flange) the rotor rotation wise.

Good point about locking it in place, the wheel might also hold the
centering ring, depending on what rim is used, and the inside diameter
of the rims center hole. If thats not going to work, you can make the
ring an interference fit to the hub shoulder, and tap it on that way.
Or if the rotor has a chamfer on the inside of the inner diameter, it
wouldnt be too difficult to have a ridge on the outside of the ring to
get grabbed by the rotor. The Mustang GT/Cobra rotors have this type
of chamfer. You can see it in the following pictures :

Jeesh, Tom; I don't know you, and we'll probably never meet; and I know you've had a few bumps on this forum; and I know I was a little put off by the way you handled some...

But I also know you've won me over- to the extent possible on the 'net- with your frequent extensive, and very knowledgeable posts here!

Update--- SteelTech Solutions DL disc brakes
Got fed up with Dave refusing to answer a phone or call me back, so I emailed him and sent the rear brake set up back for a re-fund as they didn't fit as advertised. He received them on the 16th and we haven't heard a peep from him and no refund as of today Nov 03.
I will never ever do business with him or recommend a customer to him.
                          Done with his crap.

Now, I did get Nimesh's Corvette brake set up on. I did have to have the rotors re-drilled for the stude pattern. Also shimmed the caliper so it would center properly but would need to do this on any dana 44 because of the axle shimming. Pretty easy to do. Also the set is 13lb's lighter than the "other" set. The fronts will be over 20 lbs lighter I would guess.
This set up will clear the Stude wheels that were made for the Stude disc brake set up.

                              UPDATE--
I sent the rear disc brake conversion back to DL ( Steeltech ) and he recieved them on Oct.16 (delivery conformation). No refund has been sent after I emailed him several times and no communication from DL until last night Nov 8 -
                              update-
Just got an email from DL saying that he had requested Ed's address for refund and had never gotten it. Funny, I checked all his e-mail (I filed it) and no mention of this on any I have.
Anyway, I sent him the requested address -- so we will wait and see if the correct refund is sent anytime soon.
I will not recommend anyone do business with him again. Have gotten several e-mails from others that had issues with him as well.
