  • Engine: 289 pistons

I just pulled the heads off my recently purchased 63 Cruiser as one of the valves was stuck. I was surprised to find dished piston. Is this normal for a 2 barrel 289 motor?

All standard 289"s had dished pistons. Only R-series had flattops.

Studebaker never changed a thing when going 2 to 4 Barrel except of course the Intake Manifold and even that was a Machined for a AFB 4 Barrel 2 Barrel Intake on '63-'64.

Ditto the 259 to 289 Engine differences are limited to the Crankshaft and Pistons (Flat on 259) NOTHING else was changed, not the Heads or even the Carb.

      GM owners can't believe that.

Thanks for the replies. And excuse my ignorance. 4 wheel vehicles are new to me after a lifetime on 2 wheels.
