  • Engine: Engine numbers

I have a 259 V8 that has the truck water manifold. Stamped number is V448815, casting number is 535601, number on back of block is 36N, heads are 537555. What do all these numbers mean? Are these heads very good? Would this engine have dished or flat top pistons? Thanks.

What you need is right here on the SDC Website, from the Main Page, to Resources, Tech Tips, to V8 Engine identification.

The 259 Engines do not have 10.25 to 1 High Compression Avanti 289 Flat Top Pistons, but they do have 259 Flat Top Pistons, a whole different animal. Your 537555 Heads are good heads with 8.5 Comp.
