  • Engine: Champion deck height ?

I've got three Champion engines in the shop just now and all of them came disassembled. Does anyone have a early '50s Champion with the head off and with original pistons and could measure the deck height? (The distance the piston at TDC is below the top of the block.) Mentioning the year might help us all, as there are at least four different crank/rod/piston combinations over the years.

    Question - does the #1549218 '59-60 170" head differ appreciably from the'48-54?

The early had has deeper longer combustion chambers.

Thanks. I appreciate the quick response.

It is to be hoped Studebaker learned something of benefit; probably the 8.3 compression. I'll look for a later head here locally.
