LandCruiser shoes/cylinders ?????

I'm trying to find front brake shoes for my 1948 LandCruiser. I would assume them to be the same as a Commanders of the same year but with the longer wheelbase and additional weight, I don't know if the brakes are the same or not. The shoes in it now are bonded not riveted and I forgot to measure the drum diameter when I had them off so I thought I'd ask for your help ---- and if anyone's "Studebaker senses" are feeling up to it ---- the rear brakes are anyone's guess, someone has changed the rearend to a four lug - assuming its from a champ but ???? it needs shoes and cylinders (while I'm at it and just for general interest, the rear leaf spring are wrapped - does anyone know why?) If memory serves me right, the 6's used 9X2" front and rear and the V-8's used 9X2" in the rear and 10X2" in the front regardless of the wheelbase. I could be mistaken and would have to check the manual to be sure. I'm not sure when when Stude went to the 5 hole wheel, my old '39 Champion has 4 holes.

The rear springs are wrapped and if you look a little closer you'll find grease fittings also. The wrap holds the grease in. I'm not sure about your four lug rear drums. I'm don't know if the four lug drums will fit on your Landcruiser rear or if someone has put a whole Champion rear. I have searched my 48 parts catlog and can't seem to find the answer. Perhaps someone else knows.

I just went to http://www.mystudebaker.com which is Stephen Allen Studebaker. They list brake shoes on their website. You might have to call them on the phone 352-472-9369 As I didn't see much about Landcruisers. You might want to pull the front and rear drums to get some measurements. Hope info. helps you out

Sorry about earlier, I was mistaken. I have my '51 manual out and while the Champions have 9"X2" front and rear, the V-8's have 9"X2" in the rear and 11"X2" in the front. Sorry for the mistake, too many numbers floating around in my head! Since the rear wheel brakes are the same size, the drums may interchange between the 6's and V8's. I do know the rear axle on my Land Cruiser looks considerably less beefy than on my Hawk. It actually looks more like a Champion rear end even though I know it's the correct one.

Oh, one other thing, the later model 11" brakes were 2 1/4" wide, so they won't fit your car.

A Land Cruiser was a model in the Commander series in 1948. All of this talk about V8s is not relevant as all '48s were six cylinder (of two diffferent displacements).

Sorry about that Studegary, you're right, I was thinking of my '51 Land Cruiser. But when it comes down to it, it doesn't really matter because Commanders were Commanders whether they were a big 6 or an 8. Engine configuration aside, regardless of the year, the Commanders all had the same longer wheelbase (than Champions) as well as other similiarities that made them more alike rather than less. Forgive my faux pas.

Kurt - 4-lug rears on Champions only thru 1950. John says his car is a '51. He could (technically) have a '51-2 Champion rear under his Commander.[:I]

They didn't all have the "same longer wheelbase" actually. The Land Cruisers had a 4 inch longer wheelbase than the other's of the "Commander" line.
Then, with the debut of the '51 models, the Champions and Commanders both shared the same wheelbase except (again) for the Land Cruiser which had a 4 inch longer wheelbase than all the others for that year.
