  • R1 Avanti air filter number and oil change time!

Was: R1 Avanti air filter number ... Napa?

Anyone have the cross reference for an R1 air filter element? I have
checked Johnstones page, and didnt see it. He had the R2 number.

EDIT: doing air filter & an oil change now that the fuel pump is on!

    Thanks!

It's on my web site, unless I've been a lazy sack and haven't updated the cross reference lately. Unfortunately, since I'm at work, Big Brother won't let me check it for you.

In any case, I was able to purchase a replacement at my FLAPS recently, so they are available. If it's not on my web site I guess beg JP to look under the hood of my car.

Got the oil changed tonight, the oil filter would NOT come off, I must
have over tightened it. The stupid oil filter tool I got that grabs
the bottom of the filter kept slipping. FYI : DONT BUY ONE! They are
total crap. My dad had one years ago that was a strap, that used an
ordinary extention and ratchet. I need to find one like that. Anyway
it took me about an hour JUST to get the oil filter off, I crushed it
with a c-clamp, then was able to grab it with my channel locks. I was
NOT going to let the filter beat me!!!!!!

So .. I got the TALL oil filter, and it took 6 quarts of oil PLUS a
15 oz bottle of STP to fill it up. Does that sound right? OR is my
dip stick wrong also?? Fuel gauge doesnt work, so why not??

I just checked the Wix number on my web site and it has apparently been discontinued. I have a couple possibilities, but does anyone have the dimensions of the original factory R1 filter element? especially the height.

As for the oil filter wrench, the best I've found yet is a pair of specially designed pliers. Yeah they kind of mangle the old filter but I haven't found a filter yet taht they won't get off.

I am still using the filter wrench I bought in '72. It is a metal band with three size settings. Never failed me.
