  • Other: 1954 Coupe wiper arm length?

My '54 Commander coupe came to me with the wiper blades overlapping by about one inch when parked. In photos from the period, it looks like the tips of the blades should be about one inch apart. My blades appear to be the correct 11.25" long. So I suspect that the arms are too long. How long should the correct arms be? Can someone give me a measurement, perhaps from the center of the hub to the tip of the arm (when installed on the car)? If I get new arms from S.I. or, as some have suggested, get arms for a '55 Chevy, will these provide the proper gap between the blade tips?

    Thanks,

    Pete

The arms on my '53 coupe are SI replacements, 11-1/2 from pivot to tip. I installed 12" blades and still have about 3/4" between when parked.

You can shorten the arms by drilling out the rivets, drilling new holes in the arm and using stainless steel screws and nuts.
