  • Engine: Engine ID# PL1701

    Hi guys,
I am trying to figure out if the 259 that was in my 59' Hawk is original to the car? The engine ID is PL1701. I was told 55 presidents had a serial that started with a "P". I always thought 259s started with a "V", but maybe thats only the vin number that starts with a "V" if the car is equipped with a 259.

    Also I have a 289 with ID# P9691. Is this correct for a 63 289?

    Thanks in advance

My guess is that it is a 58 Packard engine.

        P and PL meant 259 in 1955 only. After that it meant 289. It's a Los Angeles-built 1955 259.
