    A few years ago total seal rings were a special order and upwards of 400 bucks a set! Thank goodness they have come down.

      Since we're doing custom work and don't push our hone as hard, a Studebaker block typically won't change .001", but it's not a cylindrical shrink. Since the block has reinforcements top and bottom, that doesn't grow and shrink as much. The middle of the bore is thinner and so it grows barrel-shaped and then shrinks back.

      On some of the thin-wall stuff, with the production shops pushing their hone as hard as it will run and not using a torque plate, we've seen some come in .0015" out of round when a torque plate is applied.

      We end up with a block which is straight cylindrical and all eight within .0005" of each other and within the specified clearance.
