Took the 57 GH out after its winter storage for a local show. When it returned home the brake lights would not go off, disconnected the battery, started the next morning and it was fine, but on return home the brake light would not go off. This seems to happen when car is hot. Does this sound like the switch has gone belly up? It's not easy to get to but it will be changed if necessary and is there anything unique to the in Studebakers switch or will a NAPA generic work? At the local show my wife and I met a person who introduced herself as a Studebaker family descendant tracing heritage back to the Studebaker brothers. Who would have thought that would happen in Deltaville? Va. Ken

Definitely sounds like the hydraulic switch is failing. That switch is easily found...it was used my many makes back in the day and costs between $5-$10. The downside is new ones are made offshore and don't hold up in my experience. I ended up installing a mechanical brake light switch in my Avanti but a Hawk won't have that option as far as I know. Also, some say the use of DOT 5 synthetic fluid will kill a hydraulic switch fairly quickly but some also have said they've experienced no problems. It may simply depend on where it was made and its quality.
If you can find a US made switch, I'd take it even if it did cost more.Poet...Mystic...Soldier of Fortune. As always...self-absorbed, adversarial, cocky and in general a malcontent.
