  • Body / Glass: SS trim for Avanti windshield molding

If I don't have (or don't want) stainless steel trim for my Avanti's rubber windshield molding, will the glass still seal without it?

    Thanks

It doesn't seal very good even with it. You have to goo it up and hold your mouth just right and you still have leaks. Not to mention if someone inside, kicks the windshield it could pop out.

I agree with Alan. You can install the windshield without those mouldings, but the rubber gasket will not be tensioned correctly, and basically the windshield will be 'loose'.

You might be able to fill the trim groove with a plastic rope then things may fit better. Also pay close attention to corners and be sure to follow shop manual procedures and caulk the glass into the rubber as well as the rubber to body flange. Most glass people omitt this very critical step. Be prepared for a mess, but it will clean up with mineral spirits and lots of paper towels.
