  • Body / Glass: Has Anyone GT Hawk Torque Boxes From Classi Enterprises?

I am installing GT torque boxes in a C-body. Therefore I have little to use for reference. Any tips or details on location? I will post some pictures tonight.

I think we covered this a while back. They will interfere with your center floor braces. I eliminated those braces, as I was swapping in a GT frame and didn't need them. ken-renda modified the boxes to fit around the braces, his excellent work is shown in pictures answering your earlier thread..

JK, I was looking at another of your earlier posts. I was assuming you were using a stock frame, either '53-'61, or '62-'64. I see now you may be building your own frame, is that correct? If that's the case it may help you to know the center brace is attached to the floor on the '53-'61s, and part of the frame on the '62-'64s. There is a threaded nut welded inside the classic torque box that lines up with the arm coming out from the GT frame. If you are building your own frame, the torque box would fit between the front and rear body braces. You could eliminate the center floor mounted brace, and build an arm out from your frame to line up with the hole in the torque box, like the GT setup. Hope this helps.

        Dwight,

I am building my own frame but I want to get all the mounting points for the frame as exact to stock as possible. I want to be able to put the body on a stock frame and vice versa. I will bolt the center brace to the frame and design both versions to bolt on and fit both cars, 53-61 & 62-64. I checked for earlier posts and did not see but one. No real info other than they fit well. No pictures. The center brace is of no consequence as mine is toast and I will just copy the GTs brace and use that. that way I can use the torque box as is.

Here's the first rough clamp together fit up. It all seems to fit fairly well. I included a shot of the current of where the floor used to be. Check the oil change date on the door jamb sticker, DEC 25, 1961. I think it is close to the last time the car saw the light of day. Too bad it wasn't stored better when it was first put up. I am enjoying the fact that the car is so untouched. All the original gaskets in the doors, trunk and hood are there and not bad. I would not reuse them but they give me an accurate benchmark to judge repops.
