  • Body / Glass: 67 Avanti Door Seals

Anyone know of weatherstripping that will fit/interchange with the Avantis (63-84) that I won't have to take out a loan on my house to buy?

    Thanks, Chris

Chris, check with SI - I don't know how many pieces you actually need,or what the cost will be but it's available.

The two Avantis that you list Serial Numbers for are 1968 and 1972 models. Perhaps you are working on someone else's Avanti.

Sometimes folks should keep their "well-meaning" comments to themselves!
His comment was a "figure of speech"......indeed you proffered that it may be "harsh", so, why not think of the other guy before you hit "send".

Maybe your mantra should be "discretion is the better part of valor"

          Studegary,

You admonished me when I posted a poorly worded question to the Forum a month ago. I am a new member and have my first Studebaker. Now you go after Chris2 with just 10 posts. You claim to be a "Studebaker Enthusiast Much Long". With almost 14,000 posts you certainly are to be regarded as an expert. Isn't part of your veteran "Gold Hawk Member" status to help us new guys with helpful knowledge to restore Studebaker cars and continue the proud legacy of the car company? Make us new guys welcome to the forum for advice even with dumb or inaccurate questions?

As one can "see" Studegary performed an exorcism on his original post, meaning he removed what he said.......which is a good thing I guess, so many of his posts are pretentious and border on insulting. I appreciate Stude 1962 chiming in here.

The 1351334/5 Upper Door Seals are priced at $120.00 per set, for both doors. So that is an improvement if you thought $120.00 each. Plus they are a complex rubber molding with a steel backing, so $60.00 for each side does not seem like too much money at all. The best news is that they are available! That's what I ask my parts customers...if they weren't available, then what would you be willing to pay?

Huge improvement. The website (I thought) said each but I will visit it again right away. Thanks

I probably shouldn't, but here goes anyway.
I have degrees in engineering and physics. I have three decades of full time work experience as an engineer. I do not like to see engineers referred to as "dumb" even if you are referring to yourself.
No, I did not vote for BA. We are not supposed to bring politics into this SDC Forum.
RQA-0218 is in the middle of numbers for the 1968 model year that I have had for years. Of course this assumes that the 0218 we are referring to is the Serial Number on the car and not a body number. I just got out John Hull's "Avanti The Complete Story" and his table on page 125 agrees with me (my number). I would like to get to the bottom of this discrepancy. Does/did your Avanti have side lights in the front fenders?

EDIT: This Avanti II may be early enough that N&A was still using the leftover bodies and body sections that they got inexpensively from MFG. I wonder if it was possible that a car got built out of Serial Number sequence.
I assume that you purchased this Avanti new. When was it sold new? What date was it first titled?
I have owned new and used Avantis and have worked on many more. There are always new facts being uncovered.

I've benefited from Gary's vast knowledge of Studebakers in the past and hope I will continue to do so in the future. To resort to name calling is in poor taste, especially when it is easy to add venom into written language when it wasn't intended.

If you feel that someone has wronged you, try a private message instead of airing grievances for all to see. Try to be the bigger person. These sort of little battles don't do any of us any good.
