  • Heater Valve repair 63' Lark

Moving on to the final element in my cooling system..the water valve under the dash. I have a NAPA repair rubber kit (seal). Can anyone speak to the repair effectiveness or should I simply buy a SI replacement valve ($90.)

The original valve a "Ranco" valve, is a high quality valve that is supposed to actually "control" the temp at the setting you set it at (if between full ON or OFF).

If you can get all those intricate parts back together and not break the tabs that you bend to disassemble it, it should work good for another 20 to 30 years! If you have an old stock NAPA kit, I would try it because the replacement is not an Automatic valve that will function as Studebaker intended it to!
