It really is not going anywhere! It is Steel inside. For comfortable use and cosmetic reasons yes you need a New one, they are available at Studebaker Vendors: http://studebakervendors.com

Whether this is a '57 to '60 Type or a '61 to '66 Type they should be available, they show up at the Big East Coast Swap Meets and International Meets as well, maybe a U.S. acquaintance could buy and ship it for you.

Color is usually not important as most Original ones have been painted 2 or 3 times before getting on the right year and Color Interior Car! They are quite Paintable.

There are repair methods which could be used to restore your wheel. For example the Eastwood web site has several kits: http://search.eastwood.com/search?w=...%20restoration . Once the repair is made the wheel can be repainted. This is not to suggest this method would be less expensive than buying a replacement as suggested above. I have friend who builds hot-rods and I've seen him repair steering wheels using the special plastic bumper two-part repair adhesive. These get sanded and repainted with excellent results. Having the tools and materials is what keeps the do-it-yourselfers out of the game. So you might check with a local body-shop for a quote before shopping for a replacement. Best of luck.

As Rich said, your wheel core is steel and is not going anywhere. Later model Studebaker steering wheels are still available. Patching or filling, using repair kits available from several sources may suit your purpose. Remanufactured wheels, cast on original steel cores and cured in pressure chambers are available at premium prices. It all depends on your desire and purpose.
