  • Interior: Replacement Interior

Does anyone know of a shop close to Columbus, Oh. that upholsters Studebaker? I have a 1962 Hawk. The seats are just black and white. (Original)

I purchased my black and ivory seat kit in the 90's for my '62 GT from Phantom, now Southeast Studebaker in Knoxville, TN. many years ago and with some help from a club member installed it ourselves.

I had my '53 coupe reupholstered at Reliable Upholstery in Newark, Ohio. They did the entire interior, including covering the seats. I was quite pleased with their work. I'm sure they could duplicate your covers.

The old, old Phantom was in Tennessee, as mentioned above, before they sold out to the folks in Ohio, who went out of (Stude) business, which returned the business to the same old, old people in TN, but now with a different name (Southeast).

              Frank,
What was the order-ship time, back in the 1990s? Are you still waiting for any of the components?

They were not the speediest back then Joe, I believe it was about 6 months. I don't know what the delivery time is these days. The quality was excellent however, the pleats were pressed correctly unlike the original ones that cracked. I still own the car and have put about 15000 miles on it and the seats still look good.

The quality & workmanship of Rene's interiors has always been second to none. For example, I bought a set of seat covers & carpet for the blue 56J at least 10 years ago, and both are still holding up well. OTOH, I bought a set of seat covers for the GT about 2 years ago from a place in New England, and the vinyl tops of the red seats are now grayish pink.

Rene's order-ship time used to be very slow, but maybe its better now days. About two years ago I ordered a set of carpet from him, for the same GT above, and it came in only a few weeks. IIRC Rene said he outsources carpet now. That carpet is also holding up very well still, much better than the seat covers from New England.

If you are after original ,I am not sure . But Rick Futrell In troy area of Dayton did my truck, I was very happy with it, and price was real reasonable. At time you could punch his name in on google and it would tell you he did a riddler award interior. Send me a private message if you want his number. Not sure if he is still doing interiors.

What some people need is a timeline for delivery, so professional restorers/ non hobbyists can plan ahead!
