  • Engine: Extra Part?

I took the radiator out of my '50 Land Cruiser today and found a small steel plate below the radiator. It was just lying in the bracket that holds the radiator. It's 7 3/8 x1x3/4 inches with 2 holes drilled in it that match the bolt holes on the Engine to front motor mount. Does anyone know if this a required spacer or what? Thanks in advance for any help.

    Did it rattle?
(Thinking of that other thread about a mysterious rattle)

Wonder if it was an OE assembly line thing?
Engine hanger guy sets the shim plate down in the channel and 'loses it' and just grabs another one...
    Interesting question..
    Do you have a pic?

No, didn't rattle (the radiator has been on top of it for years). Maybe you're right about the piece being a "setup" piece.

It sounds like spacer, part #527306 that is supposed to be under the front motor mount on engine serial number before H-372911. Does sound like it dropped out of place at some point during engine R&R and wasn't noticed.

Do you have plans to replace that ground strap when reinstalling the engine? This can cause hard/slow starting on an old six volt Commander six.

It looks like it may be a prudent move. It took me a while to even recognize it.
