The 1157 is the correct replacement for the mostly discontinued 1034 original equipment Bulb Number.

The locating "Pins" are staggered meaning it can only go in one way, so the Low filament contact (Tail Light) and High filament contact (Stop and Turn) can be properly orientated. Try again if no fit, they did not give you a 1157 or your socket is damaged.

1957 Silver Hawk Stop light bulb

After a year I am ready to drive the silver hawk I bought only to find the brake light bulbs are missing.
I went to 3 auto parts stores and they cannot find which bulb it should be. I tried an 1157 but that doesn't work.
Any idea what bulb I should use.
    Thanks,
    Steven
