Directly to the right (passenger side).

          Paul,
Hard to tell from that picture, but it looks like your inline gas filter is on backwards.
The inlet should allow the dirty fuel to come in on the outside so you can see the contaminants, and the pressure should push the element in, instead of out.
I could be wrong, but it caught my eye...

I think it was on correctly. It was one of these weird thin things you see on some later cars. The clear part is very thick, probably to take fuel injection pump pressure. It was on the car when I got it. My son informed me that it was a strainer, not a filter. I have since replaced it with a Wix with the arrow that points the direction of fuel flow (I need all the help i can get).

Thanks. I had just detailed the compartment, though it was very clean already thanks to the PO. I see I had the battery out when I took the picture- painted the inner fender where it was badly stained. You wouldn't want to see my other cars[8D].
It is a two-barrel. I've been tempted to go the four-barrel route, but the car exactly matches the production order and it runs so strong as is so I have left it alone. It's kind of strangely equipped- Powershift, reclining buckers, clock, tinted windshield, but two-barrel 289, single exhaust, manual brakes and manual steering.

Well Gordy911, let's put it this way: Paul BETTER have a 2brl. on there because he has the throttle rod in the 2 brl. hole in the bellcrank lever! [:0]

All Studebakers with a cool air intake opening or pipe, point to the cool air, right front fender, 90 degrees from straight ahead, (or 9:00)!

In most, if not all cases that will put the DECAL where it belongs, straight ahead, front and center!

I assume trucks are the same.

I thought trucks all had oil bath cleaners--at least through the 50's.

I guess you could have ordered one with a paper filter, but I sure haven't seen any "survivors" with paper elements.

Allan; the later trucks with 4 brl. and oil bath (mine is a '62 Transtar) also had snorkels on them like the dry type! [:0]
