  • Engine: oil filter

I finally pulled the oil filter out of the canister and it is a WIX5160. Cannot locate this anywhere so can someone please tell me of a replacement. It is a '62, 289 that takes a cartridge type filter( I think this is called a bypass filter) Thanks, Lee

I think the filter number you are looking for is Wix #51006. Fram #C-4. Here is a link to size http://www.wixindustrialfilters.com/...s.aspx?S=51006

Something is fishy with that Wix number...

'If' your oil filter is a cartridge type, then it should be a Fram p/n# C4 (or C4P)

        (spec's)
        Part Number C4

        Product Type By-Pass Lube Cartridge
        Product Height 4.88"
        Product I.D. .53"
        Product O.D. 4.2"

        --------------------------

        Part Number C4P

        Zoom
        Product Type By-Pass Lube Cartridge
        Gasket I.D. 4.34"
        Gasket O.D. 4.73"
        Gasket Thickness .08"
        Gasket Usage Gasket
        Product Height 4.88"
        Product I.D. .55"
        Product O.D. 4.33"
        HTIH (Hope The Info Helps)

If the engine in your car is original, it should not have a cartridge filter. An early 1962 would have a partial flow spin-on top/front and a late 1962 would have a full flow spin on low/rear. If the engine and/or the filter has been changed from original, then go by the information provided above.

I think an aftermarket non-Fram Filter canister may have been installed. Baldwin, etc., etc.

Did you try the WIX web site..?

The current number pops right up on the screen. I'd also guess that all who make filters would have a cross referance guide.
