  • speedometer cable malfunction

Speedometer cable quit working. I replaced it and it still doesn't spin around when driving. Nothing in the shop manual about this. I assume the problem is at the transmission end, but don't know how to proceed. Can anyone help? It's a Silver Hawk.

You need to be sure that the cable is engaging the drive gear at the transmission. The transmission end of the cable should have a square end and it should fit into a drive gear in the transmission. You need to be sure that this is the case. If that is OK, then you need to check to be sure that the cable is engaged at the speedometer end in the same way. If both ends of the cable are engaged properly, the speedometer should work. If that is not the case, then there is something wrong, either the drive gear has broken or come disengaged at the trasmission end or the speedometer has sheared at the speedometer end.
