Rear Springs for Hawk

Helo everyone!
Short question tonight ! My 57 Hawk sits kinda low in the back. I just pulled the body off the frame so now would be a good time to address this. I want the car to sit higher in the back. Can you buy new springs for the back? If you could, I would imagine they would set you back quite a bit of money. Anyway, I know you can have them re-arched or worked on--is this very expensive? Also, are there 3rd party spring additions for this? I have seen some advertised, but don't know if they would have anything for Studes. Point me in the right direction. Regards Dan

I inserted a used (cutoff) 40" section of a leaf, under the clamped sections of my Avanti and 55 Pres sedan. I think it made the insert # 3 from the top. It raised both cars 1 an inch and a half. Great fix and cheap.

Out of curiosity, I called that Eaton Spring Co. to ask what sorta coil spring(s) they carry for Studes. The fella told me had no idea whether they offer standard or HD coils for a given model Stude.
From what I know, all our vendors offer are HD springs. I'd like to be able to get some standard duty coils, but no one makes those.
And don't get me wrong, I understand the economics of only making the one coil size currently. Maybe I oughta go back and check with that one old Stude dealer I know of that had a few sets of NOS springs gathering dust. I might just get lucky!

Can anybody comment, good, bad or otherwise on the fit, quality and performance of the rear replacement leaf springs from Eaton in Detroit?
I've been thinking about new springs for the '62 Hawk, but don't want to make a very expensive mistake.

I forgot to mention- the rear leaf springs in 'Baby' (my '57 Commander) came from those guys at Eaton. She's now back up to a much more acceptable ride height. No more low ridin' for her~ even with much 'junk in the trunk'!!! She also rides great as well.

I think SASCO might have those rear springs (for 57 sedans) in stock. Not sure. Seems like I bought a set some time ago. NOS they were.

A number of years ago I had an Allis Chalmers HD6 dozer and broke the main spring. Had to jack it up in the field in 100 degree temps and drag it out and load it in my truck. It turns out about half the leaves were broken, i took ot to a local spring shop and they toally rebuilt it. As I recall, I got away for around $300 (but still had to fight to get it back in). If your community is large enough, they may have such an outfit.

Eaton springs worked well for my '64 Hawk, no helper springs on the shocks any more! I did buy the HD ones but they do also make standard duty rears as well.

Try coil spring specialities in Kansas (coilsprings.com) for
standard coil springs.
