  • Delco Remy Distributor - Lubrication question

I have a 1938 President with a Delco Remy Distributor. I do not see any type of felt lubrication system for the lobe that the point arm runs on.

It there suppose to be one? Or is this an area I should apply some grease to and not worry about it? If it is missing where can I get one from?

    Thanks - Jim

The (old) Standard blue Streak ignition points used to have a felt "wiper" on the points, I don't know if you could still get those for something that old or not, or if they still make them. Now-days the "good" points come with the capsule of cam lube. Just buy a tube and apply a drop to the backside of the point arm.

You can also apply one or two drops of motor oil on the felt on the top of the cam/driveshaft and in the oiler cup to lube the Dist. also.

I have never seen a Delco or Autolite with built in cam oilers, I would think that would get too wet to run well!

      Thanks StudeRich,

Can I buy the cam lube at any auto store?

That depends on how "good" of an Auto Parts you have near you, NAPA should have it.

What happened to the old-fashioned idea of just putting a dab of petroleum jelly on the shaft?

Petroleum jelly will not take the heat. If the parts store does not have points grease get a small tube of silicone brake grease and use a little dab of it.
