Engine: 6 Cylinder Engine ID Question

My daughter's 1950 Champion appears to have a later engine in it. I've looked at the handy engine ID chart and can't figure it out. The engine number is S76304 and the number cast into the head is 1547738. Any ideas? Where is the block casting number located?

According to this website http://www.studebaker-info.org/text3/Headcasting.html the head is off of a 1959. On this website http://www.studebaker-intl.com/PDF/2...log_engine.pdf the starting number for 1959 is S-10001 and the starting number for 1960 is S106001. So I would say the engine is out of a 1959. Block casting number is 1548965, located below and forward of distributor. That casting was only used in 1959 and 60.

That's the casting number, all right. also, I didn't realize that chart was in the SI catalog.
