  • Rear Axle: Let's Try this Again, Dana 44 Ring & Pinion Question

I think most people misunderstood my question the first time I asked. How many splines are on the Pinion of the Dana 44 used by Studebaker? I was thinking in later years (post-Studebaker Dana 44) the spline count changed. I'm not talking about the axle splines. I'm talking about the splines on the pinion, where the yoke (for the drive shaft) attaches at the front of the rear axle housing.

The earlier course spline should be 10, the later spline should be 26. The age of the axle may have no bearing on pinion spline count as replacement r&p sets are usually if not always the later 26 spline.
The only way to determine with certainty is visually.

Thanks, I was thinking the early ones had 10 splines and the latter 26. I asked this because I had a guy that claimed he had a NOS ring & pinion but it has 26 splines. I assumed NOS would be 10
