  • Electrical: Horn Wiring

I have a 55 champion that has been converted to 12 volt negative ground by a PO. I have been slowly correcting all his wiring mistakes with the help of the knowledgable folks on this forum which I am very grateful for. My concern now is that the horn works without the key being turned on. Is this correct or do I have a bad ground or wire connected incorrectly?

    thanks,
Lee - soon to be on the road with this wonderful car(hopefully)

Yep. That is correct. The horn wire is "live" with the horn button or ring being the switch that grounds and completes the circuit to the horn relay. Otherwise, you'd have to turn on the switch to summon the car hop at the drive-in restaurant.
