  • Brakes: Brake fluid

Hello everybody, I have 55 commander coupe with 259 engine, working on brakes and like to know what kind of brake fluid should I use?
    Thank you

Original DOT3 flushed every 20,000-40,000 miles has been excellent for decades.

Dave, are you implying Gary should use the "Advance Search" feature in the upper right corner of this screen to pull up the dozens of previous discussions about brake fluids?

Yes Brad (rockne10), I could not decide if that is what Dave meant or; "here goes the age old battle of the "Old School" DOT 3 Guys, vs the "Newer School" DOT 5 Silicone Guys"!

                  Seriously, Gary,
The argument for DOT5 and against DOT3 is premised on the fact, and it is a fact, that very few people actually flushed and replaced their brake fluid as recommended. There are preparatory steps that need taken to convert to DOT5. And it too has its own limitations.
