    I still run a 6 V pos. ground system in my 52 ragtop, I have a 289 and later trans. in it. The BIGGEST problem on a 6 V system is the fground wires! I think I have 3 additional ground on it. But, the battery cables are 00 cables, which allows lots of draw!

      I certainly won't try to talk you out of converting, but if your only real worry is the hard starting, may I suggest you take the coil off and look it over very carefully for any identifying marks. If that baby has the ability to 'crank and crank and crank', man, you're already over the biggest hurdle!
