  • HELP-Missing Screws

What size/length screws are used to secure horn rimg and pad to steering wheel? I lost the ones I had used as the car was just re-painted. (56J)

    Thanks

    Bill,

The book says a No. 6 screw, 1/2" long. [^]

I'm with JP. If these are the ones that go through the 1" or so long plastic spacers I see in the picture and the foam cushion underneath, I think they are something like 1-1/2" long. Maybe Mr Biggs has then swapped with the short ones that hold the central disk of the horn ring to the pot metal chromed part??

So happens I drove my '53 to work today so I went out and took some pictures of them. I believe the 56J type "E" wheel has the same horn ring as the '53 (I got the one in my car from a '56 sedan).

Don't forget the fiber washer! You can see in the top picture I lost one of my screws someplace and had to make a insulator from a scrap of circuit board. The bottom picture shows the fiber washer on the left and a steel washer on the right that goes on top of it.

Hopefully this is what BB is looking for.

Exactly...... wonderful. Got the horn ring on and it works. Pissed off my dog and the neighbors getting them aligned.

          Thanks

Hey! I only quoted what's printed in the parts book. I didn't have time to go dig some up for comparison![B)]

I found some in my drawer of small parts. These are for a Lark horn ring. They are 6-32 thread by 5/8 inch long. They go through a fiber collar that fits in the hole, not just a fiber washer as shown by Jeff for his earlier Studebaker. It is past midnight otherwise I'd try to post a photo. Sounds like you got your horn ring on with what you have, so it is not really necessary to photograph these.
