  • Fuel System: Finally, a METAL air cleaner adapter ring!

Over the years we've had numerous threads about adapting WCFB carbs with 4.25" air horns to air cleaners with 5.125" openings, and the fallback has always been the Mr. Gasket plastic ring. Everyone knows that's sub-optimal due to the fact that it eventually gets hot and deforms.

Well, I just found, over on the HAMB, this thread: http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=770605 that points to a machine shop in Indiana that is now manufacturing this part in aluminum!

    Here's their website: http://www.nimac.biz/5.htm

It's part # NM04, and you'll find the part near the bottom of the page; $30 with free shipping!

I plan on getting one as soon as I can!

That's interesting......I was thinking that Ed Reynold's sold an adapter that allows one to use the newer AFB and retain the R1 air cleaner top cover....but what He actually sells, I believe, is the entire lower
air cleaner housing for the big air horn.

I built one of those about 10 years ago for Rick Courtier for his Transtar...
      T'was no big deal...
(But I made Rick pay way more than $30..... in Yuengling).

That sounds like a big improvement Clark, but I would be useing it upside down, to Put a REAL Air Cleaner; the original R1 Avanti closed Element one which is 4 1/4" on a nice New Edelbrock Performer 500 cfm AFB clone Carb. with a 5 1/4" opening.

Don't think it'll work upside down, Rich - but great for those of us trying to put an aftermarket air cleaner on a WCFB!

Pictures, PICTURES! When you get it let us see it, I want to know (see) why you could not just flip it.

OK - my adapter arrived Friday and I took some pics before installing it on Barney:

It's a really beautifully made piece! Nice thick aluminum, nicely polished. It has the little locating rib on the topside for the air cleaner flange, which worked perfectly to locate the Edelbrock cleaner I'm currrently running. For contrast, the last pic is the old Mr. Gasket plastic part - you can see how it deformed and cracked from the heat of the engine and pressure of the air cleaner.

              I'm very happy
