  • Avanti air cleaner repost?

I posted a search for an Avanti air cleaner base the other day. Since then I've learned that these must be made of gold? This is the only car [66 Avanti II] I've ever owned with an AFB carb so I have no experience with them. I see Carter carb air cleaners and bases for sale on E-bay for other makes of cars. Will anything else fit or am I left to spend a small fortune for an air cleaner? I was planning on using a base and cutting off the outside portion to make an open element type cleaner with the filter and top I already have? Thanks,

I'd use the adapter from the standard 5 1/8 to the Carter 4 7/32 to a drop down type aftermarket air cleaner with a thin (Ford type) filter. Jegs (and Summit and others) have them. Jegs also has a 4 7/32 air cleaner, but JDP's is cheaper...

Fifty bucks seems very reasonable to me! But then my wife says I'm always reasonable!
