Probably for license plate lights....although the '63 used only one, why not install two. Under the bumper like that few people would notice. Either that or pay to have them filled and then a TON of money to have it replated. It's EASY to spend a $1000 to get one bumper plated and even then the work may not be the greatest as to quality. Is case no one else has noticed this is an EXPENSIVE hobby. Only hobbies more costly are gambling and chasing WILD women.. Course you don't SAY that these holes are UNDER the bumper......if they are not just ignore this rambling.

Yeah, the 74s had them, too. One of Ralph Nader's better ideas.(!) Don't remember when they discontinued those -- when they went to the plastic bumpers in 83 - 84?

Just purchased a rear bumper from a guy I met at the SDC meet in South Bend. Once I got it home and inspected it further revealing the entire bumper, there are 2 approx. 3/8" holes in the center of the bumper 12-15" apart and they look like they have always been there. Any ideas, another year Avanti?
Probably off a later Avanti that had rubber bumper guards mounted there.
