  • Transmission / Overdrive: Wwyd?

I bought a clean, painted and generally spiffy looking TH350 tranny thru Craigslist for a couple hundred bucks and the older gent who sold it to me said it'd been rebuilt about 8 years before. A fresh converter with it. No paperwork though and he opened the pan to show me the nice shiny insides.
Not being an auto tranny expert by any stretch, I have no clue what to look for, but the shift clicks smoothly and it was a bargain. Should I take this to an expert before installing it behind a fresh engine or drop it in and take my chances?
Getting things into and out of this Avanti project are challenging. Thanks!

Oh, BTW, the tranny has not been used since the rebuild.

That would depend on how well you know the "old gentleman". If I didn't do anything else, I would put a new front pump and rear seal. GO FOR IT. It'll work.

Just my opinion here, but I would try to take it to an expert for his opinion on this trans before you put it in your vehicle.I'd rather get burned on the front end as opposed to finding out on the back end. It's obvious you want everything 'right' on this car,and this would be part of the process. After all,Craigslist is----well, Craigslist.

Seals and gaskets can dry out and fail if left to sit for a long time, especially if never run and conditioned.

To:tomnoller,----- Having this trans checked by an expert tech isn't bad advice.........but I'm with Flashback's 'change out the front and rear seal and go for it!'
