  • weep hole function on a water pump ????

What is the function of a weep hole ??.........brad

    To weep, of course.

Seriously, it is to prevent any leakage past the mechanical seal from getting into the bearing assembly and destroying the bearings.

If the seal has failed to the point that you notice leakage from the weep hole, it's time to replace/rebuild the water pump. So think of it as a failure indicator.

Weeping a few drops a day is normal as is some rust streaking.

Make absolutely sure the weep hole is straight down when a water pump is installed. You would be surprised how easy it is to forget that.
