  • Speedo / Tach / Gauges: Temp Gage and sender

I have a 12 volt system and an engine with a 1545220 temperature sender. What would I have to do to use a 532597 (SW 419475) 6 volt gage?

    Thanks
    Norm

    Norm,

What type and year of vehicle do you have?

The gauge and the sender must match, either 6 volt pair or a 12 volt pair. You cannot use a 6 volt gauge with a 12 volt sender.

If you have a 6 volt pair, you can use a gauge regulator from antique automobile radio and they will run with 12 volts. The gauges do not care that the polarity has been reversed.

Antique Automobile Radio, Inc. is the official USA classic car radio manufacturer. Buy factory-fit, Bluetooth-enabled radios direct from the source today.

If you have a 12 volt pair, but your engine was originally equipped with a 6 volt sender, your local plumbing supply place can supply the adapter to put the smaller sender in the bigger hole.

If you need to put a 6 volt sender into the hole where a 12 volt sender used to be, the threaded fittings will be more complex. In general, 6 volt senders are larger in diameter than 12 volt senders.
