  • Brakes: Remove in rear brake drums.

A needed to take to break drums of my 53 can't remember why.
Maybe Bob needed them or we put them on a red 53.
Had a little problem, the car was up on Jack stands handbrake disconnected,
and a drive shaft was taken out. What to do. I had to find a way to stop the drum
from turning.Well hears a picture of what I did.

That's one of Bob's tiedown straps we use on the trailer I wrapped it around the break drum secured ends to the frame, used a breaker bar and a 3 foot length of pipe.No problem nut came off really easy.

Next job to take off the brake drums,as you can see Bob has a real heavy-duty break drum puller. Not a problem with the puller we use.

Bob is Bob Peterson of CB Studebaker's.

    nibbs53 Patrick.

Cool,maybe.. Looks like a possible way to warp the drum.

I've had good luck using a jack handle/tire iron wedged between the lugs and the ground, or the handle of a big Crescent wrench, putting the hole in the handle on a lug stud, then wedging the other end onto the ground.

I can't see how that would warp the drum. Also, I think he has the strap all the way around the drum (maybe a couple of times).

I like the creativity some members here come up with to solve problems.

How would you have done it under the circumstances? There must be more than one way to "skin the cat".

              nice job!

I like the strap solution, but what I really dig is that puller!

Pat really made that story up about getting the nut off, what that really is and there is another on the other side is the power train to the rear wheels since there is no drive shaft the straps run up front to a power take off and spin the rear just like the old days.

That puller came with my 63 Standard past owner built it and I have never had a drum that I could not get off just set the lug nus equal and take up the slack with the large center bolt and then use impact gun on the lugs one at a time and bingo off it comes, it is just built for the 5 on 41/2" set up but does work great.
