  • Calling all 63' Rose Mist Cruisers (Larks)

I have just got into my new Cruiser after several weeks of title work.
In an attempt to deal with a cracked dash the previous owner (Dealer's nephew) tried to cover it with vinyl and upon doing a bad job also painted the steering wheel and shaft a light beige. I'd like to repaint the steering wheel or replace NOS, the shaft, etc. I know most of the wheels were 2-toned as were the steering collar, the shaft etc...Who can tell me the colors ? Was the steering wheel Chestnut & Ermine ? Any help ? Also, particular to the Cruiser in these colors, does anybody have vinyl/cloth seat covers ? If so, what is the pattern of the seat inserts ? I think I'm leaning to Phantom interior work. Though I think the original seats are vinyl/vinyl...my butt doesn't like it in warm or cold temps....

I feel your pain - my Lark was originally Rose Mist with Chestnut vinyl but the PO turned the interior all-black and covered the WHOLE dash with vinyl [xx(]

Parts manual shows 11 different wheel colors for '63, in greens, blues and reds. The only combo that seems to work with the Chestnut interior would be #1558747 Topaz Brown & White Sand or #1551582 Velvet Black & White Sand. (There is an all-black wheel listed for '63, but it's specified for Hawks only.)

    Here's a pic I have of a '63 Custom with the brown/white wheel:

I have a pic from a '63 Rose Mist Cruiser, but it's not really "right" - the dash and wheel have been sprayed the wrong color, and the seats reupholstered in the wrong color too, but you can see the pattern and the door panels:

I pulled 'em off eBay earlier this year!

BTW, here's a pic of a '64 Daytona JDP had with the chestnut interior. A few small changes, but much the same.

This is a pic of the dash from my Rose Mist '63 Custom. The dash and wheel are original, the seats have been recovered. I can take some closeups or detailed photos and email them to you if it helps.

Thanks a lot for the help guys (gals ?).....I'm strongly leaning towards Phantom NOS materials on the seat covers....I will have to work on my dash and was curious about SI's covers. Any experience so far with these ? Also, its been my bias that the 64' seat cushions were (are) superior to 63'.....I have a set of individual 64's that I'm considering. I assume the 64' seats will fit inside fine..any comments ?

The seats will swap out no problem. JDP also makes replacement seat covers; might wanna check that out. Also, should you decide to tackle the dash, everybody I've talked to says stay away from the hard plastic "caps" that SI sells. They may be easy, but they don't look or feel quite right. Just Dashes in LA will re-do your dash to like-new with soft padding, but expect to pay $700 or so to get it done

I took some photos of my 63 cruiser. The driver seatback is from a 63 lark, the rest are original to this car. You can see the welded vinyl with cloth inserts.
