  • 63 Lark air cleaner adapter - anybody have one?

I recently bought a 63 Lark 6-cyl that appears to be missing the adpater between the carb and the air cleaner. Consequently the air cleaner does not sit down tightly on the carb neck - the auto choke housing is in the way - which results in a gap. A somewhat distressing discovery since I unknowingly drove it from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts this way! Good thing I did not drive on any dirt roads! No luck on NOS from SASCO or SI, so if anyone has this part they would be willing to sell me please email me offline (cbschneider@att.net).

    Thanks!

Crap, I just threw a couple of those away from the lode still on nasty carbs. (I figured I'd never need one, nor would anyone else.)

You might try Cathcarts; he's heavy into the sixes.

I think SASCO still has them NEW.

Edit: Looking at their online inventory, they don't show that they have # 1558356, which is what a 63 6cyl would use. They DO show #1552173 which is called out for a '63 6cyl in a Taxi application. You might CALL Dennis at SASCO and ask if this one would work in place of 1558356. Whatever difference there is might be inconsequential! 800-722-4295

Tom(?) Karkiewicz has a BUNCH of them; saw them at SB. I'm sure someone here has his contact info...

Good guy, and the price will be right.

              Thanks for the replies everyone.

JDP - I wish we could all follow the maxim "Never Throw Anything Away" especially when it comes to Studebaker stuff!! However, I know some of us have way too much stuff hanging around and one is forced to do triage sometimes.

Mr Biggs - Thanks for the tip, I tried to look it up on SASCO's site too. SI and Stephen Allen also didn't have it. Interesting suggestion about the taxi version - it just might work.

Thanks 41 Frank for the Tom Karkiewicz contact info.

And thanks Kent Fedor for emailing me about this.

              Regards to all,
              Charles Schneider
