Engine: '51 V-8 serial number location

I've seen in some of the technical material that the engine serial number for the early V-8s is "at the top of the engine block near the distributor".

Can anyone provide an exact location to look, such as "on the driver's side of the block, at the top, facing the firewall, to the right of the widget"?

The engine is in a '51 Commander Land Cruiser.

Standing on the passenger side fender looking down at the back of the block, behind the valley cover it should be stamped on a pad between the dist. and the head.

At some point in the past, someone wrote the engine serial number on the passenger side firewall, so I was guessing it was somewhere nearby. I'll take a look there later today. Thanks for the help.

Easier to see with the distributor removed from the engine and the engine removed from the car. Later years it was stamped in opposite front corner.
