  • Fuel System: 1961 Hawk-Gas Tank or Guage or ??

the guage shows full, gas cap is vented, the tank is full, the fuel pump has been replaced, but after the car runs for while or when the gugage gets to 1/2- the car stops runnng. Anyone have any ideas of why this happens.

There could be rags or other trash in the fuel tank. A fuel filter or Carb. inlet screen if it has one, clogging up.
    Pinholes in the fuel line?

If the Fuel Pump is the commonly available but not correct, Airtex type sold under many package (box) names, the ones with the laminated steel plates riveted together to form the actuator Lever, it could have failed, new or not.

Bad Dist. Condensor? Bad Ignition Coil?

I don't know where your fuel line comes out of the tank but a friend of mines 53 the line came out of the lower edge of the tank the inner tube that is suppose to go down had came lose and turned over with it up the gas would go down to it and the car would stop. And he would still have gas in the tank. He dropped the tank and found it. Just a thought but I am probably wrong.

Might give Russ Ware in Gilbert a call. He does quite a bit of Studebaker repair. He frequents this Forum.

Rusty Nut's Garage's Russ is good people; I sold him the 3spd/OD out of 1962 Lark for a Stude that he's building. I work at an auto repair shop in Tempe.
