  • 57 SC w/ 4 bbl Carb

I have a 57 Supercharger from a GH and am thinking about putting it on my E38 truck. However, I also am considering switching the 2bbl for a Edelbrock 4bbl at the same time. Anyone out there done this?

    Thanks

I've seen a lot of apps, using your VS unit and a carb bonnet from a GT Hawk for an original AFB, or a Procharger style bonnet for a new AFB. The VS used the original air intake elbow and a K&N cone filter.

You may have a problem "clocking" the blower to match the R2 bonnet since the early blowers do not have the extra tapped holes to rotate the back half.

Dan; where are you going to get a sealed Edelbrock? I think I would use an R3 pressure box!

If you are using a VS-57 McCulloch, it's "clockable" in 10 degree increments. Some positions may put the bolts that hold it together in positions where they interfere with the Golden Hawk mounting brcket. It's possible to countersink the bolt.
The SN-60 Paxton's, made for Studebaker Avanti's or Lark's and Hawk's with the R2, have only the mounting holes for their intended application; and aren't as clockable. Serial #'s start with "MS" for Avanti's, and "ML" for Lark's/Hawk's. Their mounting holes are in different locations.

It's a lot easier if you use the Lark/Hawk R 2 water manifold and supercharger bracket as the Golden Hawk set up doesn't adapt itself very well when trying to rotate the blower as the mounting holes has some interference. Not something that can't be solved but more difficult.

This is something I ran into when putting a supercharger on my E28 hauler. I moved the radiator forward some and the crank pulley would not fit in the "V" part of the frame but was easily notched for clearance.

Thanks for correcting my on clocking the early blowers and explaining that only the later Studebaker blowers can't be clocked. I guess I ran into the bolts hitting the mount issue when I tried to add a 4 barrel back in the day and my memory got hazy.

                      Ted,
Wasn't it you who suggested making a 4-bbl pressure box out of a Dutch Oven style cooking pot?[:0][}]
